Making the leap from flying disks to coffee: ‘cause why not? Alan Adler is most credited with inventing the Aerobie, that ring-like flying disk thing thrown around hippie-saturated college quads and family picnics in the park. Around 2005, Adler had an idea for an alternative coffee maker, using forced air pressure through a micro filter as a super-fast extraction method. Perfect for travel and the office, the Aeropress produces single cups with far less acidity than its French press brethren. This style of brewing has gained such a cult following that there are international Aeropress championships that happen every year, where baristas from around the world gather to nerd out on their Aeropress brewing method.
The Aeropress is simple. Included is the chamber to put the ingredients in, the plunger to push the coffee through the filter, a cap to secure the filter in place, a year's supply of microfilters, stir stick, coffee scoop, and funnel for grounds. Cleanup is a breeze, as you simply push the finished grounds out of the chamber. There truly are countless ways to make your Aeropress cup (just check out the plethora of YouTube vids), but we'll just cut to the chase by saying that Aeropress coffee is an easy and fast way to get either espresso or an American style cup of coffee.
