Come enhance your appreciation of bourbon and increase your knowledge of Kentucky whiskey with The Filson Bourbon Academy. The Bourbon Academy is led by Michael Veach, Filson Bourbon Historian. In the past 20 years Mike has dedicated his time studying the distilling industry, and in 2006 was inducted into the Bourbon Hall of Fame. Michael is the author of Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey: An American Heritage (2013), which has been praised of The Wall Street Journal, and other national media.
The Bourbon Academy™ includes a full day class where participants learn about the heritage of Bourbon Whiskey and have the opportunity to taste several different styles of Bourbon and other American Whiskeys. A typical Academy schedule includes:
~ Session 1: The Origins of Bourbon Whiskey
~ Session 2: Tasting Bourbon
~ Session 3: 19th Century Bourbon
~ Session 4: Tasting Tennessee Whiskey and Rye
~ Lunch Break compliments of the The Brooklyn Kitchen
~ Session 5: Early 20th Century Bourbon and Prohibition
~ Session 6: Tasting Single Barrel and Small Batch Bourbons
~ Session 7: Post Prohibition to Present
~ Session 8: Blind Tasting and Graduation
Participants completing the one-day course are awarded with a Certification and eligible with a STAR certification to become a “Official Bartender of the Bourbon Trail.” Participants are also presented a Glencairn whiskey tasting glass and a booklet of sources for future study and reference.

We determine the most efficient shipping carrier for your order. We use UPS as primary shipper, but special arrangement can be made upon request. PLEASE NOTE that if you are receiving perishable goods, someone MUST be available to receive the package.
SHIPPING AND HANDLING COSTS: We do not charge any handling costs, outside of the freight cost, which we pass on to you directly. PLEASE NOTE: Out of state orders WILL NOT be charged sales tax. In state orders will be charged 8.875% sales tax
RETURN POLICY: We offer a full refund within 30 days for items that are damaged, faulty or unused. Proof of purchase must be provided when making a return. Please call customer service at 718.389.2982, in advance to obtain an RMA number (Return Merchandise Authorization) within 30 days of purchase date.
All Class tickets are Will-Call, your name will be placed on a list at the store, and nothing will be mailed to you. If you are thinking of purchasing a class as a gift, we encourage you to consider purchasing a gift card, which can be used towards a class that fits their schedule. Please know that if you purchase a class as a gift for someone else, the cancellation policy below will apply.
CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY: Class reservations are date & location specific. If cancellation is made at least 3 days before the class, we will honor a store credit for the full value of the class. If you cancel less than 3 days (72 hours) before the class we do not offer any refund. If you are registering three or more people for a class, a two (2) week notice is required for cancellation. You are always welcome to send someone else in your place. All cancellations must be confirmed with a sales associate by calling the Brooklyn Kitchen at (718) 389-2982 10am-8pm EST M-Sat, 12pm-6pm EST Sun. (Holiday hours may vary.)
