Fresh Produce!

FRESH AS HELL.

The Brooklyn Kitchen’s produce department is dedicated to providing our customers with the freshest produce of the season while providing the everyday staples you know and love. We work with a variety of distributors and farms in the tri-state area and the Northeast to bring you the good stuff – the stuff WE would want to find in our local grocery store, and the stuff you want too!

Some produce news:

What’s Up with Avocado Prices?
Strikes and heatwaves and seasons, oh my!

Avocado prices are noticeably higher than last year. There are several reasons for the price increases:

Avocado Farmer Strike- avocado farmers
in Mexico have been on strike since July and are continuing to hold up shipments as they negotiate for fairer wholesale prices. The US typically imports 45 million pounds of avocados on a weekly basis - right now, we’re importing less than 13.5 million. That’s roughly a 66% drop.

California Season has ended - while we were able to get around surged prices this summer thanks to U.S. grown avocados, the avocado season in Califor- nia is over.

High Heat - on top on the strike and the end of the California season, triple digit heat this summer also held back typical production in the US and Mexico.

While distributors look for alterna- tive sources and a resolution to the strike, we’re working to nd the best prices as we wait to see what happens with our neighbors down south.
