Makin’ Knives @Smorgasburg Aug 18

IRON TO BLADE
Traditional Japanese Knife Making

Sat., Aug. 18, 11am – 3pm @Smorgasburg

Three Japanese master craftsmen from Kikuichi Knives are headed to Williamsburg to show us how knives are made.  Badass.  You can check it out step by step, from iron to blade.

Right at on the waterfront @Smorgasburg, you’ll be able to watch these craftsmen forge, hammer, temper and engrave knives.  Generations of knife making traditions have been passed down to these skilled craftsmen, and this style of artisan forging dates back to the crafting of Samurai swords in Japan over 1,000 years ago.

It’s going to be quite a sight to see, and we’ll have some tastes of Japanese beer, sake and sushi (from Chef Kaz Limori) for you as well.   All Kikuichi knives will be 20% off at our booth, and free engraving will be happening on the spot for all Kikuichis bought that day (or brought in for the event.)

This TOTALLY FREE event (no rsvp required) is part of our ‘Kitchen Island’ summer series, and also part of a larger tour put on by the Japanese Culinary Arts Network (JCAN).

It’s really a super-special event, as never before have these time-honored knife making methods been showcased across the US…so tell your ATL, MN and West Coast friends about these other tour dates:
