Frequently Asked Questions

Covid Times

Are you offering in person classes at this time?

Unfortunately we are unable to have classes in our Brooklyn studio right now. We are scheduled to resume them once Phase 4 is in effect, but nothing is set in stone. However we ARE offering online classes thru Zoom. We do 3-4 classes per week and you can see the schedule HERE.

How do your online classes work?

You can see classes we are offering and sign up for them here. Once you are signed up, you will receive a confirmation email with a list of ingredients that you will need for the class and the link to join Zoom day of. Depending on the class, you may also receive a video for anything that needs to be prepared in advance. Because many of us aren’t food shopping with regularity during this time, we will provide plenty of alternative ingredients that can be used. When the time arrives for class just follow the Zoom link we provided and you’ll see us all virtually! You will then receive recipes for all the food we make in an email we send once the class is complete.

How long do online classes run?

Our online classes run about 2 hours, give or take 15 minutes. We allow plenty of time for questions and also adjust the pace depending on everyone attending.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

When you register for online classes, there is a “questions for us” section that you can use. Please note any dietary restrictions or food allergies there so that our instructor is prepared to tell you how to substitute/modify for those.

What do online classes cost?

Right now, we are doing a sliding scale fee for classes because we want everyone to be able to afford learning how to cook for themselves. Please pay what you can and if you are happy with the class, you can tip our staff here

What is your refund policy for online classes?

You may request to cancel your ticket for a full refund, up to 24 hours before the start of the class. We cannot refund for cancellation requests made within 24 hours of the start of class, however we can transfer you into any other of our online classes. When you register for a class, you agree to these terms.

Do you offer private online classes?

Yes we do! We tend to stick to the same offerings on our calendar, however we are always down to discuss tailoring a class to your needs. Please reach out to us at info@thebrooklynkitchen.com

Classes in Our Brooklyn Studio

How many locations do you have and where are they?

We currently only have one location – in Sunset Park. Our cooking studio is in the Industry City complex in Building 2 on the first floor, sandwiched between our buddies One Girl Cookies and Renegades of Sunset. Click here to find us on Google Maps.

How long are your classes?

Our classes run 2 hours total and they include demonstrations, hands on prep and cooking, and eating the fruits of your labor (and likely some leftovers to take home!).

I received a gift card – what can it be used for and how do I apply it?

You can use gift cards for classes only at this time. Once you click on the class you would like to take and begin registering, you will see a “Discount and Redemption Code” section. Enter your gift card number there. If your gift card begins with a “TH” enter the entire code, if it does NOT begin with “TH”, only enter the last 4 characters of your gift card. If you have any problems, you can reach us at info@thebrooklynkitchen.com.

I signed up for a class but now I have a schedule conflict. Can I move to a different time slot? Can I cancel?

We completely understand – things happen! Cancellations between 25 and 72 hours before the start of class can be transferred to a different date of the SAME class. Cancellation requests made within 24 hour of the class may not receive a refund or transfer. For a full refund, you need to request cancellation 72 or more hours before the start of class.

Do I get recipes for the food we make in class?

Yes! We send out recipes once the class is complete. We do this so that while you are here you are focused on the tasks at hand and utilizing your senses to cook. This makes for a better and more confident cook!

I have dietary restrictions/food allergies – can you accommodate?

Absolutely! Because we do shop for ingredients a few days in advance, we do like to have this information as soon as you register for class. There is a section when registering that is labeled “Allergies” – put any of this information there and we will see it when we view the roster.

I want to have a private cooking class – do you offer those?

Yes we do! Pricing is a bit different for those so you’ll need to reach out to discuss with us. We’ll go over menu ideas, pricing, etc. Send an email to info@thebrooklynkitchen.com

What’s the best way to contact us?

The quickest way to reach us is via email at info@thebrooklynkitchen.com. Because we are a working kitchen we aren’t always available to pick up the phone and we do not have a full-time receptionist.

Is there street parking nearby?

There is municipal (paid) parking underneath the BQE all along 3rd Avenue, but also lots of street parking especially on weeknights.
